When you underpass the Pacific Coast Highway, look right. This roadrunner is also known as the chaparral cock, ground cuckoo, and snake killer. Vistas. Salvia leucophylla (Purple sage, Gray sage) is an aromatic sage native to the southern coastal mountain ranges of California and Baja California. Salvia apiana (white sage, bee sage, or sacred sage) is an evergreen perennial shrub that is native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, found mainly in the coastal sage scrub habitat of Southern California and Baja California, on the western edges of the Mojave and Sonoran deserts.
